01Research ingredients, build the formula
Beauty and health,
designed into every bite
We study how well each ingredient suits its purpose and how nutrients hold up when ingredients are combined into feed. We look at whether fish want to eat it and can eat it easily, how well they digest and use its nutrients, and how feeding affects the water.
Formula and process design center on six priorities.
Nutrient retention and use
We account for nutrient loss during processing, storage and after entering the water, and for digestion and absorption after feeding.
Balance and healthy growth
We study how nutrients and energy are allocated, without chasing feed conversion alone, balancing growth, body condition, vitality and health.
Taste they love
We study natural flavors and ingredient pairings to win over fussy eaters and keep them coming back for more.
Easy to eat
We tune pellet size, shape, hardness, sink/float behavior and softening so pellets are easy to take yet stay intact.
Water quality impact
We aim to reduce crumbs, uneaten food and nutrient leaching while improving how well nutrients are used, and we evaluate this in trial feeding.
Safety
A quality and safety management system controls ingredient quality, inclusion rates, processing conditions and hygiene at the production site, and long-term feeding trials monitor the stability and safety of the finished feed.
02Trials at our own test farm
Every metric rigorously verified,
so every improvement we claim
is backed by data
At our own test farm, with hundreds of tanks, we use scientific methods to test and screen for the best feed formula. Our researchers track first-hand how fish eat, stay healthy and grow on each candidate formula, record and report results in real time, and refine the formula based on what they find. Only after internal trials and screening does a formula go to partner farms for further verification.
Rigorous study design
Every formula is tested with a rigorous design. We set up trial and control groups suited to the research goal, and every group runs replicated, independent trials to confirm how reproducible the results are and how much they vary.
Standardized trial procedures
Trial conditions, treatments, measurement and recording procedures are fully standardized to minimize bias from factors other than the feed.
Data analysis
We compile the results of each group's independent replicates and apply biostatistical analysis suited to the research goal, checking differences, significance, variability and correlations between groups.
Interpreting and discussing results
Based on the trials and data analysis, we judge the real differences in effect between formulas and connect them to their practical meaning for everyday fishkeeping, so every improvement we claim is backed by solid evidence.
03Follow-up trials at partner farms
Putting the formula to the test
in more real-world conditions
Only formulas that pass initial internal trials go to professional partner farms for trial feeding, long-term observation and record keeping.
Different environments and management conditions test the formula's real-world suitability, confirming that what we observed at our test farm also holds up at farms of every size.
04R&D is never one-way
Trial, review, refine, again and again:
bringing feedback home, getting to the root cause
If our researchers find that a formula performs below expectations at our own test farm, we re-examine the ingredients and review the formula. Every feeding, pellet or other husbandry issue reported by partner farms is likewise brought back to our own test farm for another look.
Before launch, every feed is tested in multi-stage trials at several scales, where we analyze and reproduce the conditions behind any problem and untangle how formula, processing, species, feeding and environment interact, until we arrive at the best formula.
